New Privacy and Cookies Policy Page for BuildCMS

A recent EU law has toughened the regulations concerning privacy on the web. It requires all websites to do two things:

1. Have a privacy policy that can easily be found from any page of the site.
2. Gain consent from vistors before setting cookies (cookies are small text files used by websites to keep track of users and their preferences).

BuildCMS™ helps address both these requirements with a new Privacy & Cookies Policy page. Just open your tools pages, then go to Tools > Power Paages > Privacy & Cookies and fill in the details to generate a privacy page for your site. To make this as easy as possible, we have included a default privacy policy for you, so all that remains is to choose a name for your privacy policy page.

Gaining consent is trickier issue. Websites use cookies for a great number of purposes but no website owner wants to put off potential visitors by blocking them from the site until they read a legal document. However, the Information Commissioner's Office (who are in charge of implimenting the EU law) have issued guidance which allows for "implied consent" - a message on the page telling visitors that cookies will be set if they continue to use the site (and linking to the site's privacy policy).

Using your BuildCMS tools pages, you could gain implied consent by adding a message to each page linking to your privacy policy page, but for a more elegant and graphical solution, Serif can add an animated, slide-down message to your template, such as this:

If you would like an animated implied consent message like this adding to your site, please get in touch.
