Post to Directly to Your BuildCMS Blog

Tuesday 1st May 2012 2:32 PM

Keeping your BuildCMS blog up-to-date is now easier than ever - we have added a new button to the Quick Tools on all BuildCMS blogs that allows you to add new posts directly from your blog page.

Clicking "New Post" in the Quick Tools will open a popup. Simply enter your new blog post then click save. That's it! Your new post has been added to your blog.

And don't forget that you can edit any blog post in the Quick Tools, too. Just click the "Edit" button hovering above the post (you may need to turn on editable regions in the Quick Tools toolbar at the top of the page). This makes it easy to fix typos without having to navigate through your tools pages.

A Quick Reminder about Quick Tools

To use Quick Tools, you must be logged in. Then go to the front end of your site. On every page you will see a small button in the top-right of the screen. Click this button to do any of the following:

  • Edit the page
  • Move the page to another section
  • Move the page's position within the current section
  • Change the template
  • Lock the page

Plus more, depending on what type of page it is.

Editing your website has never been easier.

Take Even More Control Over Your Pages

Friday 30th March 2012 2:44 PM

New in BuildCMS this week, we have added several features to let you finetune your pages. Take advantage of these changes now to increase your search engine rankings, make your pages easier to find and share and get traffic moving to your site.

Aliases

You can now give your pages alternative web addresses called Aliases.

This would, for example, allow you to have a blog at http://www.mysite.com/our_company_blog also be reached through http://www.mysite.com/blog and http://www.mysite.com/industry-keyword-blog.

These have a number of uses:

  • Make long addresses shorter to give visitors a better idea of where they are and help them share links
  • Pages with multiple subjects or covering several areas can have one page name for each subject.

You can find the tools for creating Aliases on every page type's tools page.

You can also see all your aliases together at Tools > Menu & Footer > Aliases.

Custom Tab Titles

You can now control how the tabs for your pages are named. Previously, the tabs were automatically named like this: "Page Name | Site Name | Title Suffix" (you set the title suffix in the General Settings tools page.

You can now name tabs like so: "Custom Name | Title Suffix".

This is useful for search engine optimisation and making unwieldy names easier to read in the limited space tabs provide.

Hiding Page Titles

There is another new option for BuildCMS pages. The ability to hide the page title.

While this is not generally recommended (it's bad for your search engine rankings), there are occassions when you want a banner or other page element to start your page.

Cleaner URLs

To make BuildCMS web addresses cleaner, shorter and easier to read, we have removed the ".htm" from the end of every web address. Don't worry, though, old links still using the ".htm" ending will work as usual so your search engine position shouldn't suffer.

We have tested these changes thoroughly but if you find any problems, please let us know as soon as possible.

Take Control of your Mail Forms

Friday 23rd March 2012 1:14 PM

You now have much more control over how your BuildCMS mail forms appear. You can choose to have secondary page content placed beside your form to fill any white space there, or you can put it below the form if you need more room or have a narrower layout on your site.

Just visit your BuildCMS tools pages and edit a mailform page. You will see a new dropdown just before the secondary page content:

Changing this option will rearrange your mailform page. It's that simple.
